Bukjeh

Music Theatre Visual Arts

Oceania, Australia, Melbourne

Bukjeh is a bilingual installation filled with real and intimate stories by people who have been forced to leave their homes, created in response to children’s questions about refugees. The Arabic word ‘bukjeh’ means a pack of belongings carried by travellers and refugees. The project has been developed by recently arrived refugees, together with artists with a migration background who have been living in Australia for a while. The project includes different storytelling modes, including spoken word, music, song, visual arts and language. It will be represented, with explicit permission from all the other Bukjeh co-owners, by Sasha Leong and Tania Cañas.
